Pride Lafayette Statement on Election Results:
The LGBTQ+ community faces an uncertain landscape both here in Indiana and nationally. We understand the incredible pain, despair, and frustration that many are feeling right now.
But no matter the uncertainty, Pride Lafayette remains unwavering in our commitment to push forward in service of Greater Lafayette’s diverse, vibrant, and incredible LGBTQ+ community. We remain committed to working with our partner pride organizations in Indiana to create and advocate for safe, affirming, and joyful spaces here in Tippecanoe County and across our state.
Amidst the rising wave of political hostility toward the LGBTQ+ community, we will continue to work with our allies at the local, state, and federal levels to protect our community and mitigate the potential harms and threats we face.
We will continue to provide the support, resources, and services that our LGBTQ+ community needs to survive and thrive. We will not quit our work to celebrate and promote the beauty and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. We call upon the Greater Lafayette community to join us as we foster hope and unity to ensure that love and pride are stronger than hate.
Today, we are reminded of the queer activists who came before us who faced decades of adversity at seemingly every turn but remained resilient and refused to quit. We turn to their example and draw inspiration from their strength. As we start to contemplate the challenges and uncertainty ahead, we remind ourselves that the perseverance and resilience they taught us is our strength, no matter what resistance or adversity we may face.
Even as we all take time to rest and regroup, Pride Lafayette remains steadfast in our commitment to create a hopeful today and a better tomorrow for future generations of LGBTQ+ people. To borrow from the words of the poet Edgar Albert Guest, we’ll rest if we must, but we will not quit.
