GENDER IDENTITY AND TRANSGENDER INDIVUALS

For those seeking basic information the topic of transgender individuals and gender identity, the American Psychological Association (APA) offers an excellent overview pamphlet we encourage you to read entitled, "Answers to Your Questions About Transgender Individuals and Gender Identity".

One group under the transgender umbrella of identities is individuals with intersex conditions. An additional pamphlet from the APA offers information on this topic: "Answers to Your Questions About Individuals With Intersex Conditions".

Trans Lafayette Transgender Support Group

Pride Lafayette sponsors the Trans Lafayette Transgender Support Group for anyone identifying as a CD (Cross Dresser), TG (Transgender), intersex, pre-op, post-op, non-op, transman or genderQueer or a spouse, SO (Significant Other), ally or friend of any one of these groups that fall under the transgender umbrella. Allies who attend are encouraged to ask questions and learn from the experience of those who identify as transgender. The group is meant to be a safe space for self-expression and discussion of all topics related to any of the transgender identities. Meetings are held at the Pride Lafayette Community Center, 640 Main St., Lafayette, on the 2nd Sunday of each month 4:00-5:30pm.

Indy Girlz

Indy Girlz is a peer-led social/support group for Indianapolis-area MTF transgender women and SOFFAs (significant others, friends, family, and allies ) that usually meets monthly on the fourth Saturday at 3 PM. Those attending the meeting may identify in any number of ways, including but not limited to transsexual, transgender, MTF, crossdresser, transwoman, bi-gender, and drag queen. Those attending may be of any sexual orientation.

Indy Boyz

Indy Boyz is a peer-led social/support group for female-to-male transgendered people (FTMs) in Indianapolis and surrounding areas. The group has been meeting regularly since 1998. It began as small groups of two or three friends each, who came together looking for support from others. Typical attendance at a meeting ranges from 15 to 25 people with equal representation of FTMs and SOFFAs.

Indiana Transgender Rights Advocacy Alliance (INTRAA)

INTRAA is a 501(c)(4) statewide advocacy organization working to create a society that values and protects freedom of gender expression and the right to gender self-determination for all. Since its inception in April 2002, INTRAA has been dedicated to building a strong transgender and allied community to act as a force for positive change in Indiana.
